POWE Awards 2009
POWE acknowledges outstanding women each year as nominated by their peers and fellow members. The awards are presented at the anniversary meeting in May on the third Tuesday of the month which is the founding chapter and marks the anniversary of the very first POWEr Meeting.
The time period the awards are presented for is from May of 2008 to April 2009.
The following awards were presented to 3 women that exemplify the POWE Woman.
VIP of the Year Award
The VIP of the Year Award is one of the prestigious honours the POWE organization bestows on members. It is presented to one member per year who has demonstrated outstanding networking by connecting with others in business, attending a variety of chapter meetings and other POWE events and receiving testimonials from other members. She also refers business to others and gives others testimonials when warranted. She has provided support, guidance, inspiration, leadership and networking to POWE members. In a nutshell, she has freely contributed referrals, testimonials, and connected with various members.
Denise Franklin
POWE VIP of the Year Award 2008/2009
Denise Franklin is a Certified Professional Bookkeeper, member and Regional Developer with the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada. Denise, happily married to Ron, a mom, step-mom and gramma has been a dedicated entrepreneur since January 2005 when she established D's Bookkeeping Service. Her service covers all bookkeeping procedures including off site payroll and training at all levels. Denise's goal is to help all small business owners get on and stay on the right track with their business needs. Denise is a contributing author in the Power of Women United book and the proud recipient of the 2008 Member of the Year award with POWE.
Helping Hand Award
The Helping Hand Award will be presented to one member per year who has demonstrated a gentle kindness, and giving nature. Someone you can always count on to help, no matter what. She has provided help, guidance, inspiration, and kindness to POWE members. She has freely volunteered for POWE tasks, registration desk, 50/50 ticket sales, POW conference volunteer or conference committee. The POWE Helping Hand assists Chapter Directors where needed and participates in POWE events.
Shirley Bankey
POWE Helping Hand Award 2008/2009
Shirley Bankey is an Independent Associate with Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc., contributing author of the recently released book, Power of Women United and an accomplished water colour artist. Her greatest joy is in spending time with her husband, children and grandson. Shirley has years of experience in owning and operating her own businesses, being employed by large corporations and understands, from having relocated several times, the need for a helping hand along the way. Shirley lists some of her strengths as being a good listener, willingness to help her friends and peers and participation in a variety of committees. This understanding has resulted in Shirley being recognized with the 2008 Helping Hand Award as voted on by her peers in POWE. .
Spirit of POWE Award
The Spirit of POWE Award will be presented to one member per year who has demonstrated an ability to mentor, guide and inspire others. She has a giving nature and exemplifies a great speaking voice and teaching ability. She has freely volunteered to be a speaker, has guided, inspired, and shared the wisdom of her life. She refers others to the organization and acts freely as an ambassador for POWE itself. She freely spreads the word about the organization to help all POWE members grow their networks. She participates in POWE events, fundraisers and offers her assistance where needed.
Darcelle Runciman
Spirit of POWE Award 2008/2009
Darcelle Runciman is a Business Mentor, Speaker, Author, and CEO of StrategicBizBuilder and VP of Hemlock Investments. With over a decade as a successful entrepreneur running a million dollar company, her expertise is in business building, project management, marketing & working with joint venture partners. Darcelle is dedicated to helping small businesses and entrepreneurs who want to create success in their lives. Darcelle currently writes for various magazines, hosts her own radio show Inspired Business Radio, is a contributing editor for VividLife.me, and is a co-host for Vivid Life Radio.
